Human Design and Marketing

human design personas Feb 22, 2021

When I first read about my Human Design I was stunned. Mostly, I was excited to have new language that explained things I sensed but didn't previously have words for. More than anything, this related to my deep dislike of sales. More on that later.

What is Human Design?

According to The Jovian Archive (where you can also get your free chart):

"With Human Design you discover what makes you different from everyone else. It offers profound insights into your psychology, along with strategies and techniques for making correct decisions and ultimately leading to a life of more ease and fulfillment."

Enter your birth date, time, and place to receive a world of information about you. There are larger categories you may fall into and details that are as unique as you are. The amount of information is staggering and it is a lot to take in.

Marketing From Your Strategy & Authority

Each of the 4 main types (and 1 sub-type) within Human Design has a strategy and authority. Knowing and understanding your own can inform how you position, market, and sell your magic. I for instance am a Projector. My strategy is to wait for the invitation. I knew I disliked being on the front-lines of cold-calling strangers and asking them to hire me. This was a beautiful confirmation. My authority is related to the spleen which indicates I feel a deep, embodied sense of which invitations are right and wrong. Ignoring this is dangerous; My best life is found through accepting the correct invitation for me. That's how this site started. It never felt like work for one second.

Pay attention to your own strategy and authority. How do they inform the ways you communicate both online and in-person? Can you see any patterned conflicts in your past related to your business? Maybe they're internal conflicts that kept you from starting a business at all!

Persona Development and Human Design

We talk a lot about personas here. Our Level 1 course covers the basics and goes deeper into why you want them plus a great place to learn more. Essentially, you want to define the archetype of your ideal client/customer and you may have a few. While a Human Design type may not fit into your persona, you can at least have some conversation points for each one as you discuss your offering with people.

There a sales technique called Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). It's based in psychology to help people speak the way other people listen. There are three categories of people in this approach and you can learn to discern what type people are, then speak in a way that will resonate with them. There are auditory people ("I hear you have a new offering."), visual people ("Let me see that new offering you have"), and kinetic people ("I feel your new offering may be helpful for me"). As you hear clues in their speaking and start speaking the same back to them, you'll find they're more receptive. That's a super-basic overview.

Using Human Design in a similar way can be helpful. You may know their design or be able to guess based on what you know of them. Your ideal client may be a Projector. If that's the case, make sure you invite them to something. If they are a Generator, they need to hear themselves respond so you may want to ask direct questions; yes or no works well for them.

The Key Is Paying Attention

These are suggestions to pay attention to in all your interactions especially with your ideal clients and your not-so-ideal clients. Adjust your language, your offering, your website language, and of course your personas accordingly.
